The eradication of domestic violence and creating safe peaceful homes is the goal of advocates at the local, state and national level. To achieve these goals, we must build respectful and equitable relationships between all advocates at all levels regardless of racial/ethnic background.
There is a long history of some state coalitions not recognizing or working with Tribal Coalitions and tribal programs. Indigenous communities and advocates, to their credit, have continued to show up seeking their rightful place at the table to receive an equitable portion of funding to support their work and to be recognized and treated as equal partners and subject matter experts.
In this section you will find information on ways to build equitable relationships including consultation with Indigenous leaders, ways to include Tribal Coalitions in state planning and needs assessment and ensuring that they are at the table with statewide stakeholders. You will also find a list of the Tribal Coalitions, the history of the Alliance of Tribal Coalitions to End Domestic Violence and the history of State and Territory Domestic Violence Coalitions.
